About Emma Schrader, LMHC

My Background

I know that finding the right therapist is important and can make a big difference in treatment when you feel like it is a good fit. So let me tell you more about myself and my background.

I received my Bachelors in Psychology from Skidmore College in 2014 and received my Masters of Education in Counseling Psychology from Teachers College Columbia University in 2016. I have been working in the field and a member of American Counseling Association since 2015. I have worked with clients from diverse backgrounds with a broad range of needs and expectations. I most recently worked in a community-based outpatient mental health clinic until transitioning to private practice. During my time at the outpatient clinic, I spent significant time at a domestic violence shelter and working with veterans.

My work primarily focuses on supporting clients experiencing symptoms of anxiety, depression, and trauma. I am also passionate about helping people set boundaries in their relationships, advocate for themselves, build self-confidence, and commit to realistic self-care. I am mindful of the importance of context, including systemic barriers, cultural norms, and the dynamic nature of the counseling relationship itself in order to identify the best approach for you as an individual or family. What is the meaning behind Common Threads Counseling?

Feeling emotions and creating narratives in our mind is a universal and human experience. Everyone has different experiences throughout their life that affect their emotions and narratives but we all share a desire to be heard and understood. These are the common threads that make us all human. Therapy can be a place to process those emotions, identify what makes us human, and understand ourselves in the context of the greater whole. This is what inspired the name of my practice— Common Threads Counseling, LLC.
